Planning for Actual Production

Planning for Actual Production

Genre- We will be shooting a two minutes long scene that serves as the introduction of a action comedy revenge cop movie.

Setting/ Location- It will be based on Bidston Woods during the day time. This is ideal as there's lots of diverse space and areas of capable shooting with a large variety of possible camera shots and angles. However I expect to run into problems such as the public getting in the way of shooting, but that said Bidston Woods is a fairly remote place so we shouldn't run into that much of trouble.

Costume- The policemen will be wearing shirts and suits wear as the villain will wear a disguising hoody.

Lighting- It should be filmed in the day so lighting shouldn't be an issue; all we need to make sure of is that we film in the same time of day as so we don't get many continuity errors.

Props- For props we shouldn't need much seeing as we will be filming a chase scene. However at the end of the planned intro we will require two fake guns.

Age Representation of Waterloo Road Video Extract

In the video extract from Warterloo road, the students are portrayed as being terrified and panicking. This is shown as most of the students in the school are all screaming and running towards the exits in large groups. However a few of the students are shown as being very capable, for example the young girl who was trapped in the bathroom shown tremendous initiative by attempting to block up the cracks of the smoke leaking door with dam, wet paper tissues. There is also the other student who bravely attempts to rescue the trapped girl. This shows bravery and that they are not all selfish and careless.

The teachers are shown as being very authoritative and calm. They are ensuring that all the students are leaving in an organised and calm fashion. They show great responsibility and a duty of care. This is evident as we see them bravely go back into the burning building to make sure that all pupils have gotten out.

We can see that there is clearly an informal hierarchy as the older teacher regularly instructs the other teachers on what to do at all time. This is shown when the young female teacher approaches the old male teacher asking what’s going on and what to do. He replies and gives her instructions on what to do.

Survey

Below is a picture of a survey I investigated. The survey that I did was about what different genres people like. A survey is when a certain topic or inquiry is investigated in greater detail and by asking a wide range of questions to a large number a different people of different class, age, race and gender in order to acquire a reliable over aching public opinion or favouritism.

Game of Thrones- Stereotypes in TV

Game of Thrones- Stereotypes in TV

Everywhere in TV we see stereotypes and counter types of men, women and of trophies.
Game of Thrones is a world wide successful TV program based of the novel The Song of Ice and Fire and in this TV series there are many stereotypes and counter types.

Robert Baratheon

Robert Baratheon, king of Westoros is the casual stereotype for one aspect of how men can sometimes be represented. The old, fat drunk, abusive and alcoholic husband is very recognizable in alot of modern drama's so much so that it's nearly a cliche on screen but this is due to the fact that the media so regularly represents men like this.

Cersei Lannister

Cersei Lannister is very much a counter type to the stereotype perfect mother like queen. Although a stereotype among women in the media is for them to be a loving motherly figure, kind and caring; Queen Cersei is anything but that. True she is a devoted and loving mother but to all else she's harsh, cold, calculating and murderous. A 'Stark' contrast to the loving mum women can be regularly shown like.

Margaery Tyrell

Margaery Tyrell although is an inverted cliche of the ordinary fantasy princess, she is arguably a fairly common stereotype of women in as represented by the media. The idea of a manipulating, promiscuous women is common and Margaery is a good example of this. Willing to use her sexuality to entice, manipulate and tournament men she shows many parallels to the stereotype.

Feminist and Post Feminist Music Video Analyse

Feminist and Post Feminist Music Video Analyse

Lately in class we've been looking at how certain groups of people are represented in the media but here I shall focus on how women are represented in music videos.
There are two diffrent point of veiws I shall be analysing them with. The first will be from a point of veiw of a feminist then from the view of a post feminist.

Feminism

Came into being around the late 1960/70's women questioned their position in society and wanted to get rid of the stereotypes.
Sexual objection and the male gaze are the main purpose that women are used in the media, especially in music videos. They recognized that in a lot of media women are solely there for the purpose of display and pleasing men's gaze as wallpaper.

In this video a feminist would say that Beyonce in this video is a victim to voyeurism, this is were people take erotic pleasure from looking at a sexual object, and in this case Beyonce is being treated as an object in their eyes. She is wearing reveling clothes, overly dressed up in a barbie doll fashion, chewing a piece of gum; all to make her seem more attractive for men to take pleasure from watching her video. She and many other girls in the video change into even more tight clothed, skin reveling outfits and begin to dance erotically, all for the benefit of the male gaze.

Post Feminism

In the 1980's they wanted a re-appraisal of values. They unlike regular feminists don't strive for equality with men (cause in their eyes this means that they would see men as already being superior, they want to surpass male achievement.) They don't look at how women are being exploited by the media, instead they claim that women actually assert their right to dress and act provocatively to empower themselves and to make men desire them.

A post feminist would say that actually Beyonce is empowering herself by wearing such erotic clothes and acting so provocatively in order to achieve female gaze, wear women actively seek out men and make them want them. This embraces her sexuality and attractiveness and confidence. This coincidentally mathes the lyrics to her song- "do what I want to". This shows her having the control.

PreliminaryTask Self Reflection

Preliminary Task Self Reflection

We have just done our preliminary task filming a short two minutes scene where the criteria were to have shot; a door opening; people walking through door and to a destination; for them to sit down; and then have a conversation.
This is a short evaluation/ self reflection where I will talk about what went well, what went wrong and my critic of it.

What Went Well?
  • We shot all the scenes in the time given
  • All technical equipment worked
  • Our group worked well together and agreed to their set jobs
  • We quickly developed a system to time the shooting of the camera with the beginning of the performance were we would silently count to three after the camera was turned on to ensure no performances where cut off.

What Went Wrong?

  • Late planning of scenes meant that actions and script was impromptu and not thoroughly planned
  • Camera angles weren't pre-planned
  • Continuity wasn't considered to great extended during impromptu lines and shooting
  • Callum and Riley couldn't stop laughing
  • Oliver was a impromptu camera man who learnt as he went.

What Can We Do To Improve?

  • Before shooting we should have story boarded and scripted the entire scene
  • Make sure everyone knew what their job was before hand and knew what and how to do it
  • Not just story board the plot line but also possibly consider certain angles in advance to make editing easier.
